Studio Policies: Updated 2025
The policies listed immediately below apply to my home voice studio.
Please scroll to the bottom of the page for policies for lessons at Northview High School.
payment
My studio uses an automated billing and scheduling system called Acuity. For those who have purchased monthly membership packages, Acuity will automatically charge your card or bank account on the first of the month. Acuity processes payments securely through Stripe, which is used by many large retailers. Neither Acuity nor I have access to your financial information. Drop-in lessons and audition prep packages are paid for in full at time of purchase. I do not accept cash or checks.
sick policy
If the student has any cold/flu symptoms or has been exposed to Covid, please let me know and we will meet virtually over Zoom rather than in person. If a member of the student’s household has Covid, even if the student does not, please let me know and we will have a virtual lesson instead. If the student shows up to an in person lesson with cold/flu symptoms or if I learn that a member of their household has tested positive for Covid within the past 10 days, the student will be asked to leave and we will not be able to continue with the lesson.
rescheduling
I am never able to guarantee that you will be able to reschedule a lesson. Clients have the ability to reschedule their lessons themselves using the Acuity platform. You are able to reschedule lessons up to 48 hours before your lesson is scheduled. Please note that we can always do a virtual lesson if you do not have transportation that day or are feeling ill. I use Google Meet for virtual lessons.
cancellation
When you purchase a membership package, you commit to a full term of lessons. There are 3 terms per year: fall (Sept-Dec) (Fall 2024 is August-December, due to returning from maternity leave), winter/spring (Jan-May), and summer (June-August). However, I understand that life happens. I require 30 days notice if you need to cancel your membership package. I do not offer refunds.
drop-in lessons
Drop-in lessons can be rescheduled a maximum of 1 time, with a minimum of 48 hour’s notice. There are no refunds given for drop-in lessons.
tardy policy
Please communicate with me before your lesson begins if you are running late. If the student is more than 10 minutes late and has not communicated with me in advance about running late, I assume that you will not be attending your lesson and the lesson will be canceled. I always have my phone on me when I teach, so just shoot me a quick e-mail or message to let me know if you are stuck in traffic etc. Lessons that begin after the scheduled start time will still end at the scheduled end time.
absences
There are no refunds granted for any reason, including absences. If the student cannot attend their lesson, they are welcome to send someone else in their place (this is a great opportunity for siblings, parents, or friends of the student who want to try taking a voice lesson for the first time!). Please let me know if you will be absent.
late pick-ups
Students who are given rides to lessons by a caregiver are expected to be picked up at the scheduled end of their lesson. Habitually late pick-ups (5 minutes or more), especially without communication from the ride-giver, can result in termination from the studio.
snow days/inclement weather
Whether school has been canceled or not, do not worry about driving out to your lesson in the snow. If you do not feel comfortable coming here, let me know, and we will meet virtually instead! Since my studio is in my home, I’ll be here no matter what. :)
Policies for In-School Lessons (Northview HS)
payment
My studio uses an automated billing and scheduling system called Acuity. Lesson payments will be automatically charged to your credit card the day after lessons. Acuity processes payments securely through Stripe, which is used by many large retailers. Neither Acuity nor I have access to your financial information. I do not accept cash or checks. If there is an issue with your card and your payment does not go through, I will contact you.
sick policy
If the student is well enough to go to school (no fever, not contagious), we will most likely carry on with the lesson as normal and work on sight reading, ear training, music theory, or select new repertoire. If the student shows up to an in person lesson with severe cold/flu symptoms or if I learn that a member of their household has tested positive for Covid within the past 10 days, we will not be able to continue with the lesson. Being self employed, my life gets complicated if I get sick because I do not get sick time and only I am running my voice studio, so there are no substitute teachers to cover for me! So please help me out by keeping the germs away as much as we can.
rescheduling/cancellations
We will most likely not reschedule lessons, unless there is an urgent need to and I have availability in my schedule. You must contact me a minimum of 24 hours before your lesson to cancel a lesson if you do not want to be charged for the lesson. I expect that each student will commit to lessons for at least the entire semester, but more likely the entire school year. If you will not be able to continue lessons for any reason, I require 30 days notice. Although payments are week-to-week for convenience reasons, the commitment is NOT week-to-week. Please consider carefully your budget before commiting to lessons and speak with your choir teacher if you situation changes and you have difficulty paying for lessons.
There are no refunds granted for any reason, including absences. If the student cannot attend their lesson, they are welcome to send a friend in their place. Please let me know if you will be absent.
snow days/inclement weather
If school is canceled for a snow day, most likely we will not worry about lessons. If a big event is coming up and you would like a lesson, we can meet virtually that day!
