Hi, I’m Hannah DeBoer!

(she/her)

A native of Grand Rapids, Hannah is a multi-genre professional voice teacher and performer, working in the musical theatre, opera, and choral music spaces. Since completing her Master of Music degree in Voice Performance in 2020, Hannah has sought to foster a rich, unique career in the spaces intersecting between the worlds of Western Classical music and musical theatre. This has led her to performing in unique spaces (recently, she performed the role of Mary Sunshine in an interactive production of Chicago: The Musical at a bar), and co-founding Grand Rapids’ first professional choral ensemble, Vox GR, with whom she sings Soprano 2 and serves as the Director of Education and Community Outreach. Hannah teaches musical theatre voice at Grand Rapids Civic Theatre’s School of Theatre Arts, where she has also directed Camp in Concert: Les Miserables- School Edition and is music directing Camp in Concert: Battle of the Stephens in 2025. At the collegiate level, Hannah is an Instructor of Voice at Calvin University and has taught voice lessons for non-music majors at Grand Valley State University and voice lessons for BA Music Majors and BA Musical Theatre majors at Wichita State University.

Hannah’s students can be seen performing in the community, including Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and Circle Theatre, and are often featured in their school’s musicals. Former students have continued their performing arts and musical educations at several high ranking colleges and universities, including Western Michigan University, Eckerd College, Circle on the Square, Indiana Wesleyan College, and Hope College. In the 2021 Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing student auditions, students of Hannah were awarded first place in the Adult Classical category, and second place in the Youth Musical Theatre category. Hannah enjoys working with students of all ages (typically ages 12-adult) and is experienced with working with adolescent voices, changing voices, neurodivergent singers, and singers who are transgender or gender-nonconforming.

As a teacher, I see the potential in every student I have worked with, and I believe that anyone can sing - and sing well. I believe that students tend to thrive in environments where they are taught with kindness and patience, but are also challenged to work hard! Nothing gives me more joy than being my students biggest cheerleader and supporting them on their unique, individual journey.
